Wild camping is so easy here in Greece, we stayed for two days along with a couple of others vans overlooking a small island between Syvota and Perdika (GPS: 39.38594, 20.27390) before moving on today to yet another fantastic spot. There is something for everyone here in Greece - a deserted spot for those who like to park up on their own or maybe in the company or one or two vans or a really popular spot like our current location in Ammoudia.

We stopped off in Parga which has a lovely castle overlooking a bay of colourful houses. Unfortunately it is also popular with English tourists and knock off merchandise so we didn't spend much time browsing the many backsteets of shops. We did however pick Sophie up a snorkel, which she has been wanting since the waters are so clear here and there are so many fish to see, as well as two beach mats to save the traumatic experience of hand washing towels! The views however do belong on a postcard and we waited for a couple of clouds to pass before taking our photos.

Wild Camping In Ammoudia - GPS: 39.236256, 20.480188
So this evening we reside in Ammoudia which appears to be a Free Campers paradise, with 15 campers parked along the thin jetty and another 10 or so within the trees along the beach. We made our presence known by arriving and promptly getting stuck in the sand as we decided where to park! A couple of guys came out to give us a push and with the help of our Anti Slip Grip mats and a big push we managed to get out! Oops!

  2. I'm so glad I found your blog! We've been considering something like this for two years now - we spent a year RVing around the U.S. and are currently traveling abroad right now (housesitting and short-term apts), but we'd really like to buy a campervan to cruise around Europe. :)

I read your about page and it sounds like you did a trip a few years ago - are you currently living in your campervan again?

  3. your blog has given us a lot to think about, we are travelling europe from january, hopefully down to greece for 3 months first trip just to see how we get on, who are you insured with for your breakdown? as mine does not cover me in the new eastern block countries in europe, and do you have winter tires as we have been told we need them in some countries.

  4. when you start to travel north again call into a place called pecs in south hungary, it's a nice small city, we visit it 3 x's a year with some good friends there, they are very friendly people.

  5. Hi John, we timed out route to get the best out of all the countries we visited - so we hit Scandinavia right at the start of the season (April) when it was getting warm and have enjoyed Sunshine for 87% of our trip (and thus no winter tyres required). Safe Guard breakdown covers all eastern EU except Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania so in these countries you'd need to get towed over the border at your own expense. Hope that helps!
