After visiting Poznan we headed toward Germany to chill out, recharge and plan the next leg of our journey. We visited a couple of small German towns and stayed on aires for the 7 days we were there. </div>

We're currently based at a fantastic little aire in Flensburg, Germany's most northern city. After 850 miles of driving, this is a welcome break and the weather has been very kind to us (although maybe not as kind as it has to those of you stuck back in the UK!).<br />

We resisted the temptation of a bratwurst and a glass of Flensburger Pils (the locally brewed beer) and headed back to our van stuffed with food before heading into Denmark tomorrow.<br />

That said we're both European in our tastes so probably eat different things. One thing is for sure, we're stocking up on wine and beer before Denmark rather then pay the £40 for a bottle of wine as quoted on Denmarks tourism website! While we can take 900 litres of wine to Denmark we'll have to be careful to drink it before we enter Norway, since we can only take in 5 litres of beer or risk a huge fine!<br />

Everything in the van seems to be working well - despite charging two laptops, two phones, and running the heating overnight the batteries are still well charged thanks in part to the LED lighting. The 1km Wifi Antenna coupled with a tripod is excellent, allowing us to post this while hooked up to the marina wifi - so far away I can't actually see it from here!<br />

Today we visited the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein and its neighbouring castle Hohenschwangau which from a distance looked picturesque. We parked with a couple of other campers and took a 30 minute uphill walk to the castle itself. The tour was 35 minutes and the guide took us through many rooms which Ludwig II decorated. It was a beautiful castle but a lot of work was  being carried out so most of the exterior was covered in scafolding. The town itself was entirely based around the two castles therefore seemed quite touristy.<br />

We are now sat on an aire in Lindau - we will explore the town tomorrow morning and then head toward the north of Germany.

Last night we got off the Ferry and made our way towards Aire in Oostend <br />
(51.22279, 2.92339) which was situated next to a lake. We managed to get <br />
a space next to a Mercedes Sprinter and got our heads down for the <br />
night. We woke about 10am and set about having some breakfast. I opened <br />
the blindes to find a Hymer parked on the other side of us with our wing <br />
mirrors nearly touching... not ideal... just about managed to squeeze it <br />
out in front of a crowed of Belgians...<br />
<br />
Today we drove 350 miles to an aire in Aschaffenburg (49.97835, 9.11565) <br />which is situated on a river with great views of the castle. Sophie did <br />all the driving today and managed 30.5MPG, not sure that I'll be able to <br />repeat that tomorrow!<br />
<br />
Tomorrow we will be driving the remainder of the way to Prague, but hope <br />to have time to spend a few days in Germany on the way back. Might go <br />and explore some of the town in the morning depending on the weather, <br />it's pretty here about 25c and its 9pm at night!<br />

Last night we crossed the border into France having followed the Rhine<br />

down as far as we could. We wanted to stay at a French Passion site</div>

again as we missed their hospitality and choose one in Cleebourg. When</div>

we arrived we wern't sure if it was open but after pulling back a huge</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
oak wooden door we found a bar area and lots of locals sampling the</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
wines - who were we to argue? We sampled a few glasses and found a white</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
we both really liked and took it back to the camper where we spent the</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
night round the back of the building <a href="http://www.cave-cleebourg.com/">www.cave-cleebourg.com</a>. In the</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
morning we decided we liked the wine so much we went back in and bought</div>

a case to bring home!</div>

Today we have visited Strasbourg which was lovely - so much history and<br />
old buildings to see - something which Germany lacked a little. The<br />
Christmas market was huge but a bit 'naff' compared to the hand made<br />
crafts of Germany - although there were a few biscuit stalls. One thing<br />
we have missed from France.... bread!!</div>

Just a quick update of where we stayed last night near Cochem and part <br />
of our journey today in the Mosel Valley on our way to Koblenz as we've <br />
managed to pick up some Wifi where we've stopped for lunch! There are so <br />
many aires in this area it is unreal - I can't imagine how busy it would <br />
be in summer - I'd imagine it would rival the lake district!

early in the morning. We stopped outside the Rathaus, which we now know to mean 'town hall', and took a few photos.<br />
<br />
The bad weather was persistent so we made our way to Munster where we the Christmas market had just started. When we arrived we discovered the Christmas market was the largest we have come across so far and it was heaving with coach parties. The market seemed to wind its way through all the little streets and squares near the Rathaus, lots of stalls were selling Christmas punch and Bratwursts (We are trying not to buy one at every Christmas market we go to!)<br />

We had decided to drive down to Cologne before heading to the<br />
Netherlands so we made our way in that direction. When we arrived at the Aire about 2km up the river from the centre of Cologne we were astounded by the number of UK registered campervans - at least 20 or so! We payed 8 Euro including electric and while setting up we got talking to a couple who told us about an Aire in Brugge which will come in handy inthe next week or so.<br />

As it was so busy we decided the best way to get into Cologne would be to take the bikes down the cycle path that runs right next to the river from the Aire for about 2 miles. It was very cold but only took us about 20 minutes to bike into the centre. There I managed to find an new fitted coat from H&M!<br />

After Berlin we were ahead of schedule so we travelled upto the Baltic
Sea, we had a lazy day around the coast and stayed on a campsite for two
nights.<br />
<br />
We didn't spend a lot of time in Lubeck we just whipped round the main 
attractions, Lubeck is kind of marooned in the middle of an island with 
one bridge which takes you over to it. We travelled to Hamburg and 
arrived there for lunch time.<br />
<br />
We managed to get parked in the centre of 
Hamburg on the 1st December which is when the Christmas market started 
in the centre near the Rathaus (City Hall)<br />
<br />
We have seen many Christmas 
markets but none of them had been in full swing. The atmosphere was 
great and many people had turned out for the first day of the market.

We saw a few attractions but bypassed the huge shopping centre as we had 
run out of time on the parking meter.<br />
<br />
We also drove to the southern park 
of the city to see a U-434 Submarine which was one of the biggest 
non-nuclear soviet submarines. As Adam was looking forward to the VW 
Museum in Wolfsburg we pressed on to an aire which we had found that was 
on the VW premises.

After dragging ourselves out of bed we made our way into Berlin. We<br />
bought our tickets from the booth in the underground - this time<br />
remembering to actually validate them (something we didn't do in Vienna<br />
or Rome - so we'll still have tickets for next time!) we jumped on the<br />
underground and made our way to our first stop at Alexanderplatz.<br />
Our first impressions were mixed - the city looked quite run down and<br />1970's style prefabbed buildings were everywhere. We decided the best<br />way to see our surroundings was to make our way up to the 250m high TV<br />tower that looks over the city. From here we could see the vast<br />differences in the landscape. Most of the historical buildings in Berlin<br />have been rebuilt, although some have been left in ruin as a reminder of<br />the city's past. Many areas are being redeveloped or are in desperate<br />need of renovation where as the main strip leading up to the Tier Garden<br />look a bit like buildings from around Europe transplanted into one<br />place. Potsdamer Platz, on the other hand, could have been lifted<br />straight from America with its glass fronted sky scrapers - if it wasn't<br />for a great slab of Berlin wall in the middle of the path serving as a<br />constant reminder of the areas history.<br />
We also visited 'Check Point Charlie' after a bit of wandering in the<br />wrong direction as by this time it had started to get dark. The mix of<br />cultures in Berlin is evident and is somehow hard to believe this is<br />Germany's capital as it still seems very much a work in progress. That<br />said, it is certainly somewhere I think we'll revisit as I'm sure that<br />in our lifetimes redevelopment will progress at such a rate that
